Pope Leo XIV
Chicago native Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected as our new Pope. He takes the name of Leo XIV

“Peace be with all of you!” – the first words of Pope Leo XIV. The Conclave has elected Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the 267th Bishop of Rome. Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti announced the new pope to the waiting crowds.
HABEMUS PAPAM!! (We have a Pope)
The first Augustinian Pope, Robert Prevost – now Leo XIV – is the second Roman Pontiff from the Americas after Pope Francis. However, unlike Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the 69-year-old Robert Francis Prevost is from the northern part of the American continent, though he spent many years as a missionary in Peru before being elected head of the Augustinians for two consecutive terms.
“Together we must try to be a missionary church, a church that builds bridges and always dialogues, that is always open to receiving everyone like this square with its arms open to everyone, everyone in need,” Pope Leo XIV said.
